8 reviews for Polk audio psw10 10-inch powered subwoofer (single, black) (renewed)

  1. Robert

Update: 6 months after purchasing and going strong. Great for movies and music. Best sub for the price. Original review: Using the PSW10 subwoofer in a 15×30 room connected to a Marantz NR1608 receiver with Bowers and Wilkins Bookshelf front speakers and a Jamo center speaker. The placement is between the front speakers (see photo). The receiver is connected to an xfinity cable box, an xbox, a turntable and a kindle Fire 8D. They all sound great, the PSW10 produces better than expected sound given the low price, in fact, it sounds great. I was planning to hide it behind some furniture, but it looks good so it’s right out front. Read more

Didn’t want to spend $100s – $1000s for a small room application. Just needed a little more bass than the speakers I have a Denon AVRX-1400H in a home office with a set of Polk RTi6 speakers. Was reticent to try the “Renewed” product. Could not have been more pleased! Love it. I the bought a new one for my son-in-law for his 5.1 system (a small home system) and an additional one for another room where I have with 4 in-ceiling speakers run by a Marantz SR6012. Adds just enough bass w/o overwhelming. Great sub for the money! Read more

I am using this sub woofer to augment my home theater sound system as well as standard audio listening. The tricky part about this is finding the right setting compromise for both of those very different audio sources. I haven’t yet found that “sweet spot”. While I understand that “one man’s mix is another man’s poison” I have found that 5.1 theater surround sound can better tolerate the higher level settings in my particular listening environment. Also paying attention to the crossover setting is important. For standard audio listening I find that I need to turn down the output level on the sub, but again, “one man’s mix….etc.” Over all this is a good product and I’m glad I bought it. Read more

…and HEAVY too. But the bass response is thunderous, wall shaking! I’ve got to curl up and watch a good war flick like Black Hawk Down. It is also fully adjustable so you don’t crack your house’s cement foundation! It has all kinds of knobs and dials, speaker connections, switches and other gimcracks I don-t fully understand yet, but promise to be useful for one thing or another. Keep in mind, I bought the smaller 10 inch one and when I say it’s huge, I mean like ottoman huge, it’s like a side table! But you’re going to LOVE the added depth and dimension it gives your home theater experience! Read more

I’d been going years without a subwoofer on my good old stereo system, thinking that I wasn’t missing much. Holy cow, was I wrong. This 10″ sub really makes a huge difference in my listening pleasure. I like the versatility of the connection options and wired this to my Harman Kardon #HK-3700 receiver as “Speaker 2” with 2 sets of good 16AWG speaker wire to the Left & Right Input Channels. With my Cerwin Vega speakers wired to “Speaker 1” inputs, I’m listening to my vinyl and CD’s in a whole new realm. I didn’t realize how much sound I was missing without this awesome sub! At this price level, you owe it to your ears to put this in your cart today and buy it immediately. You will be as amazed as me with a true 2.1 stereo setup! Read more

  6. ebola3

I love this medium sized sub. It works great in my medium sized living room. I used my Onyko receiver to set it up. The only thing I didn’t like was that it requires you to use a rca cable and an adapter to connect to my receiver. I couldn’t use a regular sub woofer wire because the connections on the back say left and right. Other than that I love it! Read more

  7. Hoosier Daddy

This sub is a bit small and underpowered compared to many others, but for its price it’s excellent. I’m using it in a small home theater setup with a 50-inch TV and a modest 5.1 receiver. It’s just fine for that. Not surprisingly, it sounds like it’s straining at bit with extremely low tones at high volume, but that’s the tradeoff you expect with a 10-inch speaker driven with a 50-watt amp. If you want a high-end home theater experience, you’ll need to spend at least twice as much money for a bigger, more powerful unit, but for television and music at sane volume levers, this is a real bargain. My 20+ year old Polk Audio wireless subwoffer gave up on me (started thumping, louder and louder); I consulted some local and national experts, and they all informed me that the amp had gone up, and there was nothing repairable by mere human hands. In my search for a replacement (including Bose in the outlet mall – during COVID-19!) the best value for quality, size (just a family room), etc., was Polk Audio. I was fortunate in finding a refurbished unit from Polk Audio, and saved ~$40 on that option. So, for under $100, I was able to replace the “shot” subwoofer. The connections were simple and explained just as simply in the start-up guide. Even at low volumes, it enhances the bass line, for everything from chamber music to classic rock. I can only hope that this one lasts another 20 years! Read more
