Wish I could give 3.5 starts. Sound is good but after having them up for about 4 months I noticed the grills and some of the outer housing is turning a slight yellow color… UPDATE: I wanted to improve my rating to 4 stars. The speakers have had time to break in and the sound is very very good. The grill coloring isn’t as bad. I think i was in a bad mood when i wrote the first review. I would buy these again for sure. The price/performance is outstanding. Read more

These Polk’s replace my Bose 151. After 15 years the Bose burned out and I needed a replacement. The Good and the Bad, first the Bad, they are not my Bose 151, the Good, they are not my Bose 151. I currently have 8 speakers surrounding my pool, I like my music to comes from all angels. The Bose used to outperform my other speakers so music just came in louder from one direction, with these Polk’s, the transition between speakers is smoother so I’m getting equal performance from all speakers. My only complaint is that I had to cut the tips off my banana plugs in order to install the speakers. Due to the design of the speakers my plugs did not fit into the plug housing, they were a bit too long. Not a big deal. Read more

I replaced a pair of 15 year old Bose 151 (the older version) when one finally went out. Frankly, I’m underwhelmed. Sound quality is no better (or worse). I wonder if they will stand up to the elements as well; build quality doesn’t seem quite the same. That may not be a problem, since these will be under the eaves and won’t have the same exposure as my old speakers prior to moving them. Installation was easy, but he forwarned: the angle of the posts are such that my banana plugs wouldn’t fit. Fortunately, the speakers are light enough that I was able to screw in the bare wire with little difficulty while holding the speaker with one hand. I’d rate these 3 1/2 stars if I could. Overall, though, they’re a little better than average if they hold up to the weather. UPDATE: After note listening, at higher volumes, I’m liking these speakers better. Much more rounded sound than my 151s I still have hooked up. Better bass, which is enhanced by attaching the bracket to the wave and wall in the triangular fashion recommended in the instructions. I’m now more comfortable with my 4-star rating. Read more

Most big box electronic stores carry the Polk Atrium 4’s but not the Atrium 5’s. I’m sure that a few people are like me and wonder if the Atrium 5’s are worth a cost of almost twice as much. In my opinion they are worth it. I found the Atrium 4’s lacking any bass and sounding very “tinny”. The Atrium 5’s had more bass and a richer sound. Read more

Bought 5 pairs of these after several hours of research. I use two sets for my 7.1 surround system in my screened in porch. I use the Atrium 6 for the front speakers. The center speaker is TBD. I wish they would sell speakers individually but they do not and is part of my 1 star deduction. The other 3 sets are used to replace my old faded to yellow Bose surround speakers in my family room home theater and my dining and sunroom stereo systems. The other reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the bass. But for the price and what I intended to use them for they work perfectly. I do like the simple mounting and attaching/detaching mechanism. The easily adjustable mounting angles help with the multiple layouts I have for these speakers. Read more

The speakers were replacing another pair of outdoor speakers that we had installed for approximately two years ago. The speakers are hooked up to a Sonos amp to connects them to the rest of our wireless system. I did not want to invest too much into the first pair as I was unsure how much I would notice a difference in sound quality sitting outside on my deck, but as the sound on one of the old speakers grew “tinny”, I decided to replace. The sound quality on these provides a much more rich base. Even my husband who does not normally hear differences in the sound quality of all of my audio electronics said that he could hear the difference in the quality from the old “good” speaker. Loving them!!!! I’ve had these on my list for over a year while planning and performing my basement remodel. While doing that I ran speaker wire out to my back patio from my planned home theater in the basement. I’m glad I stuck with them instead of going with another brand. (Though I have nothing to compare them to). Very nice sound stage imaging that I did not expect from outdoor speakers. Bass is quite good for the size. You obviously will not get as much as my Infinity Primus 363 Towers (or a 12″ subwoofer), but it’s much better than expected. Amazing creative, functional and sturdy built in mounting brackets! I used #10 screws to mount the brackets (keyhole) to the overhang underneath my roof. I put one screw through the stud and the other only through my wood siding. The speakers are pretty light weight (4 pounds) and easy to handle and I feel that they are 100% sturdy and will not fall. The speaker is super easy to remove from the bracket and just as easy to attach. Great for bringing your speakers inside during the winter! Problem: The banana plugs (Monoprice) that I have are too long for the cavity where the binding posts are. I pushed them in and are working for now, but I would feel better if I got shorter ones that fit all the way in there. I’m using my 2nd zone on my Onkyo Receiver. The remote app is awesome. You can select your source, pause and skip songs and control the volume straight from the app. You can power on the 2nd zone without turning your whole receiver on and can do it all from the app. It is so cool! You just have to have your receiver connected to your network, wired or WiFi and have your phone on WiFi. Rocking out! Read more

I have Polk speakers in my home and they sound awesome. I now have these external speakers from Polk and they also sound awesome. I was looking for a high quality exterior speaker for my pool. They installed easily and the mounting brackets are well designed allowing you to set the speakers like you want them. I’ve had them for about 2 weeks and so far, so good. I will update you on their durability as time goes by. If there is no follow-up within a year, that means they are holding up fine. Read more
