  1. Amazon Customer Number One

Since I decided to try out the 4 more popular bluetooth mini-speakers on Amazon, I might as well write a review comparing the 4. The four that I decided to compare are:DBEST London Duo Bluetooth Rechargeable Mini-Speaker Set (PS4003BT-RB)http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006JO1YCY/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_1X-Mini KAI XAM11-B Bluetooth Capsule Speakerhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0071AKB38/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1Accessorise (TM) Portable Bluetooth Wireless Mini Speaker Systemhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009GP92SG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Alpatronix AX300 X-tra Strong Bluetooth Portable Mini Capsule Speakerhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0062CBCGG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i03?ie=UTF8&psc=1Based on testing it with 4 different songs on YouTube, here are my ratings and quick comments:Darude Sandstorm:DBest – 8 – strong sound, good bass, not too much distortionAlphatronix – 4 – weakest volume and sound out of the 4, also a constant buzz can be heard when connectedAccessorise – 7 – WOW, this thing is surprisingly loud and the bass isn’t too badX-Mini – 10 – by far the best out of the 4, strongest base, clearest sound without distortionPalladio (the Diamond Commercial song):DBest – 6 – good volume, but when it comes to classical stuff, the sound was a little screechy and not as warmAlphatronix – 3 – poor volume, weak sound, and it just sounded bad. The buzz was still thereAccessorise – 7 – good volume, a bit more “raw” than DBest, but less screechy, so I gave it a higher score.X-Mini – 9 – again the clear winner with a rounded sound, good volume, and low distortion. Warmest sound of them all.Zombie Nation:DBest – 6 – the strong bass in this piece caused a bit of distortion and made the song a bit painful to bearAlphatronix – I took this out of the running by this point.Accessorise – 8 – Impressively loud, and while there were distortions, it was strong enough to make me ignore itX-Mini – 9 – again the winner, but not by much compared to Accessorise. Maybe because of the power of Accessorise really helped it in this song.Handel/Halvorssen’s Passagcaglia (Perlman/Zucherman live in Russia version):DBest – 7 – good, but the high violin notes made it screechy again.Accessorise – 8 – slightly better than DBest, and slightly less screechyX-Mini – 9 – warmest and most rounded of the sounds. Least screechy and you can hear the details the best.Mozart Violin Sonata in e minor (Gil Shaham):DBest – I took it out of the running because the price is double Accessorise and performance is similar.Accessorise – 8 – clear, warm, and strong volumeX-Mini – 10 – especially at the 8:56 point, the violin comes through powerful, smooth, yet warm. Impressive! So ultimately, I rank these four speakers this way:1. X-Mini2. Accessorise3. DBest4. AlphatronixThe question I face was whether X-mini commanded the 2.5x price premium. At the point in writing this review, I’m still debating, so I may play with both of them a little more before deciding. But the value of Accessorise could win me over just because of how cheap it is, but I could also splurge for the best quality out of the 4 with X-Mini.Oh yeah, the X-Mini does jump around the table with strong bass, but the way to solve it (though sacrificing some bass) is to close the speaker (shrink it) or put it on a soft surface where it can’t bounce off.Hope this review is helpful for everyone!Cheers!Read more

I received the X-Mini Kai XAM11-B today. I tested to see if it had a charge and the light was blue so I tried it. Pairing worked with several devices but did take a little while to connect. Several times, ever with my iPhone next to the speaker, the sound stopped but the speaker still showed as connected in my phone’s setting. It did make a beeping sound which the instruction indicated the speaker should be charged. The instructions state when the speaker is fully charged, the red charging light should turn blue. The speaker has been charging for 5 hours and the light is still red. I unplugged the charging cable and tried the speaker and in bluetooth mode, the light blinks between red and blue and the speaker works. I just don’t know if it is fully charged or will fully charge if the charging lights stays on.I do like the compact size and the ability to connect via bluetooth or directly with built-in audio cable. The sound is okay and I have a similar size speaker that is not as louder but does have a richer sound than the X-Mini.I contacted the seller and depending on the response, I may be returning the speaker.Read more

I cannot stop myself from being amazed every time XMI releases another of their speakers. It simply blows me away.I love X-mini speakers. I own a: X-mini Max (Stereo), X mini Max 2, two X-mini II’s and I have owned this one. So, it’s safe to say I’m a huge fan. Now, don’t go expecting BOSE Sound Quality from these little guys, but WOW they DO pack a punch. Everything you hear about it true, these things have INCREDIBLE sound quality. (I am an audiophile so I do have a taste for quality speakers) I haven’t encountered a single X-mini that hasn’t met my expectations, until this one. Quickly I’ll let you know it came in a beautiful clear acrylic case. (Very similar to the iPod cases) It came with a lovely traveling pouch and info on the great charity stuff X-mini does.I bought this because of its biggest selling point, BLUETOOTH. Let me say, it does that job fantastically. It’s hassle free to setup and easy to stream your music to. I used mine with my iPhone 4 and it was beautiful. The only reason I dropped a star was because… well… the “boom” factor left after a few days. When I first opened and used my X-mini KAI, I was blown away by the sound quality and volume. I played it for hours. However, over the next few days, it lost that “oomph” that I have come to know with X-mini. At first I thought it was the battery, so I charged it full, and still, nothing. I just couldn’t get it loud enough for my liking.I would have loved to keep the it, but for $80 for a speaker that I can’t get volume out of, I couldn’t justify it. Maybe mine was a defective unit, and who says that I won’t end up buying it again someday; but for me, it’s going back. Sorry KAI.Sincerely,Forever a X-mini fan.Read more

I’ve owned two of the non-Bluetooth version of this speaker and have enjoyed those units for 5 yrs. This unit appears to be just as good except the volume control which is a multifunctional toggle wheel. I know the multifunctional wheel is also there for track navigation, but it’s difficult to know what the present volume level is set at and there’s no tone to tell when it’s at highest volume. Pairing with my iPhone was hassle free and reconnecting is a breeze. The battery has a good life and charging is quick. Other than the wonky volume toggle, it’s a good unit.Read more
